Prayer For A Softened Heart To Give Charity Generously And Joyfully
Almighty and Eternal God,
I come before You with a heart that is willing but aware of my shortcomings. I know that You are the Giver of all good things, the One who provides for me each day and has blessed me abundantly. Yet, I confess, Father, that I sometimes struggle to give charity as generously and joyfully as You desire. My heart has not always been soft toward those in need, and my hands have not always been open to share what You have entrusted to me. For this, I ask for Your mercy and grace.
Lord, I recognize that You command us to care for the poor, the widow, the orphan, and the stranger. You have shown us, throughout Your Word, that generosity is an expression of Your heart. In Proverbs 19:17, You say, “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will reward them for what they have done.” I want to be one who is kind to the poor, one who lends to You, Lord, but I admit that my heart has often been closed. I have allowed fear, selfishness, and doubt to hold me back from giving freely, and for this, I ask for Your forgiveness.
Father, You know the struggles I face. You know the concerns and the worries that sometimes prevent me from giving as I should. But I believe that in You, there is no lack. You are the One who supplies all my needs according to Your riches in glory. I am not without, for everything I have is a gift from You. In Leviticus 25:35, You tell us, “If one of your fellow Israelites becomes poor and is unable to support themselves among you, help them as you would a foreigner or a stranger, so they can continue to live among you.” Lord, I want to live in obedience to Your Word, but I need Your help. I need You to soften my heart, to open my eyes to the needs around me, and to fill me with compassion.
Yeshua, my Savior, You gave everything for me. You emptied Yourself and became poor so that I might become rich in You. Your sacrifice on the cross, Your blood poured out for me, has opened the door to forgiveness, to grace, and to a new life. I come before You now, pleading Your blood to cleanse my heart from selfishness, greed, and fear. I ask that Your blood, which has washed me clean, would also wash away the hardness in my heart and replace it with the generous spirit that You desire. Yeshua, You were rich in glory and majesty, but You gave all of that up to meet the needs of others. Help me to have that same heart of generosity, that same willingness to give, knowing that You have already provided for all my needs.
Lord, I also pray that You would help me to give with joy. I confess, Father, that sometimes my giving has not been done with joy, but out of duty or obligation. I want to be free to give with a heart full of love and gratitude for all that You have done for me. Please soften my heart so that my giving becomes an act of worship, a reflection of the love You have poured into me.
Father, I ask that You would remove any fear that I have regarding my own needs. Help me to trust that You are my Provider, that You will always give me what I need, and that as I give to others, You will continue to supply for me. In Deuteronomy 15:10, You promise, “Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.” I believe this promise, Lord, but I need Your help to truly live it out. Help me to give without hesitation or doubt, knowing that You will bless me in all things.
Yeshua, I surrender my heart to You. I ask that You would remove any pride or self-reliance that keeps me from seeing the needs of others. Help me to look beyond my own circumstances and see the pain, the suffering, and the lack that exists around me. I want to be a vessel of Your love, a channel through which Your blessings flow to those in need. Let me reflect Your heart of compassion and mercy, so that when I give, it is truly You who is giving through me.
Lord, I pray for a transformation in my heart, that I would become a person who is quick to give, slow to withhold, and generous in every way. May my actions reflect Your goodness, and may my generosity be a testimony to Your love and provision. I ask that You would guide me, Lord, to opportunities where I can give, where I can make a difference in the lives of others, and where my heart can grow in love and kindness.
Father, I also ask that You would continue to bless my finances, so that I may have the means to give even more. Help me to steward what You have entrusted to me wisely, so that I can continue to bless others and bring glory to Your name. I trust in Your provision, and I know that as I give, You will continue to meet all my needs.
In Yeshua's name,
Amen.
